MID SEASON PROGRESS REPORT

We are now half way through the season and our results do not look exactly shining. In the League we are currently one from bottom - having lost matches that we certainly should have won. There are a number of reasons for this not the least of which has been a run of injuries - a common feature of all our sides.

We have also lacked any continuity in the composition of sides due not only injury but also player availability. The seconds have suffered at times due to numbers and although we have attracted at least eight new players we have lost a few, who have left the area, most notable of whom is SIMON McCULLY, who is now in OZ. The Colts too have lost at least six players to uni, thougn we have had a very useful input from last year's U17's. Their strength has been governed by injuries.

JEWSONS  FLOODLIT  40

However, for the first time we entered the JEWSON's FLOODLIT 40 ,  which was

a largely successful venture even though on occasions we were down to a bare fifteen. However, we have put a side out and it has been a useful opportunity to enable Colts and Seniors to play together. We were runners up to Stratford in the South Warwickshire Plate which was an encouraging start. The second stage, which is based on a knock out arrangement, begins in February and we will be concerntrating on putting out a combined Colts and 2's . These matches are 20 minutes each way and are played on certain Wednesday's in the month and are played under lights at the following grounds - Leamington, Shipston and Stratford.

THE SEASON - PART 2

Just so players are aware of the arrangements regarding promotion and relegation from our League - Midlands 5 West (South). They are  - top two teams promoted   and bottom THREE relegated. One team is promoted from

Midlands 6 (SW) and (SE) with a play off between the second placed side in each league for the third spot. HARBURY are currently 9th with 4 points.  We have 9 games remaining - to have any chance of avoiding the drop we need to win all our five home games and at least  2 away matches. It is as simple as that!

The pressure is on but players can help themselves and the Club by  committing themselves to attending training and making themselves available for matches so that we have some consistency in selection and our play on match days.

The Club has  much to offer and measures have been put in place to provide greater diversity in training and coaching over the next  few months.  Complement our excellent facilities with committment and greater enjoyment will result.

2006/07 HRFC Awards Evening

4th June 2007

Last weekend members of Harbury Rugby Club enjoyed their Annual Dinner and Awards Evening at the Clubhouse. President IAN HOLROYD reflected on a season of mixed fortunes but drew very positive messages from the hardwork and application of the Colts. He thanked all the members and players for their efforts and in particular thanked Chairman JOHN FRENCH  and the outstanding work of DAVE ANDREWS who deservedly was awarded the CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR.

On the playing side great pleasure was shared by all as STEVE ALFORD was voted PLAYER OFTHE YEAR and the work of both MATT KNIGHT and the seson's 1st team skipper MARK FINCH was noted. He also thanked SEAN GEARY and TONY COWLEY for their contribution and the work of all the Coaches, Helpers and Officials in the Colts, Junior and Mini Sections. Full Review.....
